OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Jail officials in Daviess County say an inmate is charged with arson after starting a dangerous fire. They say it happened Thursday in the housing area. 26-year-old Christopher Katz is also charged with 17 endangerment counts. Officials say deputies immediately worked to evacuate inmates and get the fire out.

An inmate at the Daviess County Detention Center (DCDC) has been charged with first-degree arson and 17 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment after allegedly starting a fire inside a housing area on January 6, 2026. Christopher Katz, 26, reportedly started the fire in Building One, prompting DCDC deputies to respond to a fire alarm around 1:30 p.m.

Inmate dies at Daviess County Detention Center; investigation underway - The Owensboro Times
A 28-year-old inmate died Wednesday morning at the Daviess County Detention Center, according to officials, and an investigation is underway. According to a release from the Daviess County Jailer, at approximately 5 a.m., deputy jailers responded to a medical emergency in a housing unit involving inmate Dalton Gordon, who had been booked into the facility on August 19.
